Exclude Users from People Search Results

Ever want to exclude a person from search results? No problem just add a rule under the ‘People’ Scope.

SSP –> Search Settings –> Scopes –> People

Rules Section –> New Rule –> Property Query –> UserName

Add the username in the Property Query section without the domain prefix (e.g. tjones)

Exclude – Items matching this rule will be excluded from the scope

What? You don’t have UserName as a property restriction? Go to Medtadata Properties –> Page 2 –> UserName –> Edit/Map Property

Click the Allow this property to be used in scopes checkbox in the Use in scopes section.

You may need to wait a few minutes for the scope change to update. In my case the item count was skewed after adding some rules. This didn’t effect the non-excluded results though.

I’m sure you can use an AD security group to exclude multiple users. I haven’t tried but you may need to map an additional metadata property.
